Over all personality:
Since Sora was a child he had always been competing with his best friend, Riku. To Sora, Riku was the very definition of awesome! Everything a hero should be: Strong, mature, determined and an all around cool guy. Sora wanted to be just as strong-- if not stronger, than Riku. So he made a habit out of challenging the older boy to anything he could think of. Which birthed a healthy sense of competition in him that he held onto through out his childhood.

He'd often compete, play fight or race with whoever offered and with the arrival of a new girl named Kairi to the island there was yet something else Riku and Sora could compete over. It was typical boys being boys, or even little brother copying big brother, but Sora still pushed himself hard, and though he'd often lose, by the time he was a teenager, Sora had become one of the strongest kids on the island (but still second to Riku).

Still even with this overly competitive attitude, Sora is still good humored and doesn't take losing a competition hard. He just sees it as something else he has to work on and does so accordingly. The more Sora matured, the more his will to become stronger became less about wanting to be better than Riku, and more about wanting to protect his friends and loved ones.

For Sora, friendship is the most important thing and he will often put Riku and Kairi above all else in his life, even going so far as to sacrifice his well being for their safety. Seen first when the darkness attacks their island, Sora tries as hard as he can to pull Riku out despite the darkness trying to consume his own body. Then again when he finds Kairi's lifeless body in Hallow Bastion. When he discovers her heart is trapped in his own body, he plunges himself into Darkness with little concern over his own return just to give Kairi's heart a chance to escape and return to her.

Still, this heroic behavior isn't only used toward protecting life long friends. Sora will also go to great lengths to protect even people he's just met. Sora has always had the ability to make friends easily, and to form strong bonds with these friends. Sora can't stand to see someone sad and is always willing to lend a helping hand. It's because of this people often assume he has a hero-complex, but this couldn't be further from the truth. Sora is very friendly and his goals are purely to help and bring happiness to others.

Because of this, Sora never likes to break a promise. As a child Sora had made a promise to a stranger, to protect his friends and to never to let Riku 'wander down a dark path'. He still holds true to that promise to this day, along with his promise to Kairi to return home with Riku and bring back her lucky charm. He'll do most anything to keep all his promises and if for some reason he is unable to fulfill them, he does all he can to make it right to the person he feels he's wronged.

Sora can also be a little too trusting at times. Being raised on a small island where everyone knows everyone else, has also made Sora a bit gullible and not very worldly. Seen clearly in "Birth by sleep" when Riku and Sora walk up to Aqua, with little concern over her being a stranger or an adult hanging out on a children's play island. Though this has improved since his journey, he can still put a little too much trust into people he views as friends. Clearly seen when he first met Neku in the Dream realm's version of Twilight Town. After just meeting the boy and sensing he was in some kind of trouble Sora put his mission aside and offered to help. He even held to that offer after Neku betrayed him and tried to hand him over to a mysterious man in a black coat.

Another part of his trusting nature is how very giving and kind he is, even when helping people he hasn't met face to face, like Ventus. When Sora first encounters the boy's broken heart, he feels sad for him and with little thought to his own well being, he offers to let Ventus' heart into his own where it can rest safely for however long it needed to. This giving attitude only strengthens as Sora matures and he opens his heart to quite a few lost souls, even some who have wronged him in the past.

Sora has an amazing capacity for forgiveness, it takes a lot to make Sora hold a grudge towards you and even then it's not set in stone. Sora strongly believes that even the darkest of hearts has a glimmer of light and even when his life long friend, Riku, betrays him on several occasions, he never stops believing that there is still good in the boy. But this forgiveness isn't only for his friends, he even shows it towards sworn enemies, such as Maleficent. When the woman is attacked by Dusk, he has to be restrained by Donald to keep from trying to go back and help her.

He'll often try to smile even when the worlds around him are literally plunging into darkness around him. It has at times dampened his cheerful attitude, but never one to weigh down the spirits of others, Sora does his best to keep any negative feelings he might have to himself. He believes there are enough bad things going on in the world and losing faith isn't going to solve these problems or help his friends. Still it has on a few occasions slipped out and Sora will frown, questioning his abilities and wavering under the pressure that comes with being a keybearer. Many times his strength and decisions have come into question and in the recent game he had to come into the harsh realization that his power and strength are not all his own, but gifts given to him by the hearts he held with in his own. Thankfully Sora has a strong sense of self confidence and determination so moments like these never last long! Some may call his way of pushing back his negative feelings unhealthy and this might be a little true, but he isn't about to change this. For him, the needs of others will always outweigh his own.

Sora is also very much a teenage boy and like a teenager, Sora can be pretty immature or get overly excited about things he finds cool. Such as his eagerness to take part in hero training at Olympus, or his excitement over meeting pirates, his sense of awe over landing in a Carnival when first came to Pranksters paradise or the silly sense of pride he got when he said the musketeer oath with Mickey and the others in the Country of the Musketeers world. Such things can derail him a little on his journey, which isn't always a bad thing since he often finds valuable skills and information when taking part in these activities. He also has his moments when he can be slightly sarcastic and teases his friends like teenagers often do. It's always in fun though and even if he's fifteen he has on occasion acted even younger than he should. For example, when he first gets to meet Santa Claus, Sora is literally bouncing with excitement and was happy to sing and dance to silly songs in the aquatic world of Atlantica. He also has a tendency to pout or sulk like a kid when he's disappointed or when he's being teased.

Sora can also be kinda lazy. Often curling up and taking naps on the beach in the middle of his training with Riku or when he's supposed to be helping his friends build a raft and pack supplies. Which often leaves Riku and Kairi to pick up the slack for his carefree attitude. Riku has also had to bail him out on more than one occasion since this slacking and lack of attention to detail sometimes lands him in life threatening trouble. But Sora has deep trust and faith in his friends, so even when he does land himself in deep trouble, he has unmoving faith that Riku, Donald, Goofy or any of the friends he made, will always be their to help him out of it. Faith that has often proven itself well placed.

Overall, Sora isn't just your basic hero, he's more your typical boy next door. He's a very upbeat and optimistic person with a childlike sense of adventure and is always looking for a new and exciting challenge. He's also fun-loving and pure-hearted, though he can be pretty simple-minded and naive at times, which makes him a very easy target for teasing, he possesses unwavering loyalty and a strong sense of what's right, which provide guidelines that he'll stick strongly to.

Birth by sleep time-line personality:

I'll be picking Sora up from a prequel game set ten year before the events of Kingdom Hearts.

Sora at age four isn't really too different from his older self. Even in his teen years he still shows the same outgoing, brave, competitive and kind traits as he did when he was a toddler.

Outgoing, as early as age four Sora has had a small group of friends and with the arrival of a mysterious new girl to the island he shows excitement at the prospect of meeting a new face. Seen in flash backs and memories visited in the game "Kingdom Hearts: Chain of memories" he's always shown with these friends, even at a young age his friends have had a huge impact on Sora and even with his limited fighting experience he is still just as protective of them.

As seen in his play challenges with Riku, he was always trying to be more like his friend so he could better protect Kairi. Which also shows his competitive nature. Whether it was races across the beach or over who could hold their breath the longest, Sora had always competed with his friend Riku. No matter how many times he lost (which was often) he'd still challenge him. Though he will still pout and tell Riku he was just lucky, Sora never let the loses discourage him from trying again.

Another trait he's shown is a healthy sense of curiosity. He is always eager for an adventure, whether it's exploring every area of his little play island or climbing into a dark cave to look for monsters, his curiosity coupled with his naivety can make him seem pretty fearless. He'll even talk to complete strangers. The boy grew up on a very peaceful little island where everyone knew everyone, so most of the barriers and cautions taken normally shown by children are a bit lost on him. When a mysterious woman appeared on their play island one day, Sora showed no qualms about speaking to her. He even eagerly tells her his name and laughs when she ruffles his hair instead of shying away from her touch. His parents also don't seem concerned about letting their four year old and his five year old friend out on the beach a night by themselves or off to play on a secluded island all day.

There is also Sora's warm and kindhearted attitude. As stated in the earlier section. His kindness towards Ventus' broken heart is a literal example of Sora's open heart. When encountered by the strange light of Ventus' broken heart he reaches out to hold it in his hands and being able to feel Ventus' sadness he offers to help and allowed the boy's light into his heart where it could rest until it's well enough to return to it's own body.

The only real differences between the Sora of then and now would be his bravery. Though he is happy to go on silly adventures, it's rare that he'll do such things on his own. Sora is always seen with Riku as a child. It's pretty clear that Riku is the one that instigates these adventures. He's also more subjective to the boy's teasing and a lot more gullible, believing most anything Riku tells him.

Abilities:Uh, nothing really physical at the moment. There is the dormant ability to be a keyblade wielder. Even though Aqua decided not to pass the mark onto Sora he still gained the ability when he took Ventus' broken heart into his own, but he doesn't discover this until he's older.

SAMPLES
First Person:

[There's a dial tone followed by the sounds of beeps, like someone is pressing a bunch of buttons on a cellphone.]

Huh...? You make noises? [A young voice says suddenly, followed by more beeps. Then an image appears... Then disappears... then reappears again!]

That's a weird thing for a toy to do... Wonder why those people gave you to me. [The child stares down with a confused look.]

Well, that's okay. It's not your fault you're a weird toy. Maybe you're a normal toy in a place like this... [Another beep from the phone and the boy smiles.]

That must be it! This place is just weird. They're some people in there that say their my parents, but my mom is much prettier and my papa is much cooler. [He smiles fondly down at the phone.]

Hey, you think if we ask nicely, they'll take us home? I'm sure Riku will be real happy to hear about this place! He's always talking about places away from the island. [A thoughtful look-- Beep!]

Hee, yeah course I'll bring you with if you wanna come! You showed me your world, so it's only fair I show you mine!

[Beeps!] Right! That settles it then! [He starts to stand up and puts his new "toy" in his pocket as he runs back into the house.]

Third Person:

Sora crouched down on the lawn picking at the grassy land, but to his disappointment there wasn't an ounce of sand to be found. It wasn't like he'd never seen grass before, there was plenty of it back on the play island, but grass wasn't as fun as sand. You couldn't sculpt grass and dirt into cool castles and forts. Grass also hurt more when you fell on it and when it rained, it'd get all muddy. Well, okay, mud was kind of fun in it's own way to. When his new parents would let him play in it.

Sora paused mid grass pluck when an idea struck him. Mud was a lot easier to sculpt than dirt, right? Sora looked around the lawn for a bucket to fill at the sink, but his eyes landed on something more useful!

He ran up to the hose attached to the house and loosened it. It wasn't too hard to make mud. He'd seen people water their lawns and make it all the time! He set the hose down and turned the faucet for the water.

The hose slowly filled and dribbled on the lawn. Nah, Sora needed more mud than that! He turned it more not noticing the hose was starting to wiggle on the lawn until a burst of water shot him in the back of the head. "Ow, hey-- Uh-oh..." He watched in wide-eyed horror as the hose flailed around the lawn and slammed into his new parents' little blue car. "Oh no!" He skidded on the mud a bit until he reached the faucet again and tried to turn it off with now slippery hands.

"Come on, come on, please stop!" He squeaked and managed to finally turn the water off with a final tiny heave. The hose sputtered and fell limply to the ground. Sora looked around at the mud covered house and lawn.

"...Oh man..." He frowned down at one of his new toys sliding wetly by his feet and thought that maybe he should of tried asking his new family to take him to the beach instead...
